PATEA COUNTY COUNCIL.

ENGINEER 'S REPORT. The following is the report of the engineer submitted to the last meeting of the Patea County Council:— Alain Road and General: The widening north of Patea has been making slow progress owing to poor metal supplies, but of the total of three miles to be widened -i miles have now been' completed. The curves beyond the top of the Whcnuakum Hill on the Waiver ley side arc being widened and tfie canting of the curves attended to as time permits. Otoia West: All tho metalling in the Alton and Hurleyville districts has been completed and the metalling on the Kakaramoa Road, Otoia Gorge, and AlcKenna’s Road has now been clone. I’it metal to be spread on A. Pearce’s Road has also been carted out. Whitehead's Road has been completed, also the Spence Road under the separate tf ntty Geary’s ? Road. Jhas Jpoon ciomplotcd with the Afanutahi Beach metal. Otoia East: There is little to report in this district. The metal on the Otauto Road has been blinded. The metal on most of the length of the Kaharoa Highway is in bad order and I propose grading and blinding the same during the current week. Waverlcy Riding: The metalling, first course, on the Kohi Highway has been carried out, also half tho length of the extra piece to bo metalled closing up tho gap near Hone’s. Earthworks on the Okotuku Road have been done preparatory to metalling. The authority for this work has not yet come to hand. ‘The Karahake Bridge site has been surveyed and two designs for the bridge have ‘been prepared. Aloumahaki Riding; Tho road over the slip on the Valley Road near the Wcraweraonga Bridge has been lowered. The earthworks on the Weraweraonga Road preparatory to metalling are in hand, and metal will go forward as soon as the earthworks arc completed. The survey on the Lakes length has been completed, and a scheme prepared on the lower portion for submitting to the Public Works Department. Grading has been carried out on the Lower Valley Road and Lower Okotuku Road. The new grading plant has also been attending to the Upper Valley Road, Waikarc Rd., and Omata Road, and very good work has been done. The small length to be metalled on Block 8 on the Lakes length has been carried out, and this road is now passable. Contracts have boon lot on the Okotuku and Alangawhio Roads, approval of which has eomc to hand. No tender has been received for the Afoturoa Road.

Kapara Riding: All the metal has been carted out on the Kaimanuka section. Some of this metal was too large and is now being broken and re-spread. Culverts for various earthwork sections and the Alatcmatc Road •ara hftfng 'catrUed* -but. Satisfactory tenders have been received for four earthwork sections and two metalling contracts on the Lower Waitotara Valley Road and for one section of the earthworks on the Aratcmate Road. The earthwork contract will now be proceeded with without, delay. Tenders for the other three sections on tho Alatemate Road have been called closing at to-dav’s meeting.
