WAVERLEY
On Wednesday evening :U the residence of Mr. and Mrs. I’. Fowler } a .-irprise party was held in honour of Mr. M. Hockley, who is shortly to he married. Between 30 and JO friends were present. The time was spent with cards, music, and competitions, Mrs. Howard being the fortunate winner of the card prize, while Mr. Hockley scored for the consolation. The competition, which was a very interesting one, was won by Mrs. F. McDonald. During the evening Sir. Mason, on behalf of tho. o present, said he had a pleasant ceremony to perform, and that was to present the guest of the evening with a bronze smoker’s stand and wallet, wishing him much happiness in the future. Mr. Hunter also spoke a few words and endorsed Mr. Mason’s remarks. Mr. Hockley, in responding thanked all present for tho beautiful gifts and the speakers for their kind remarks. Supper was the next item, and- Mas thoroughly jenjoyed/J after which the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and “Auld Lang Sync” brought a very enjoyable entertainment to a close.
