TWO BOXERS DISQUALIFIED

lloporting to the Te Arohu Boxing Association in connection with the recently promoted featherweight contest between Tommy Griffiths and Frank Taylor for a purse of £IOO, in the course of which both 'boxers were disqualified, the referee, Mr. 11. Beale, of Auckland, stated that early in the second round he .became suspicious that the men were not boxing to the best of their ability.

. At the end of the fourth roumr.it was apparent that there was some mutual understanding between the boxers in relation to the manner in which they intended to conduct the contest. Marly in the Jifth round the referee made it known, in no uncertain terms, his opinion of their tactics, and warned them that if there was not a considerable improvement both would bo disqualified. There, was a momentary improvement, and then both resumed their former tactics, and were therefore disqualified early in the seventh round.
