THE PATEA DOMAIN.

(To the Editor.)

■Sir, —As a visitor to your progressive 1i 1 tic town, with its up to date municipal chambers, Town Hall, and picture theatre, its water and drainage system, fine Post Office, and well equipped stores, I should like, with your permission to specially congratulate the borough on its very fine, well provided, and well kept Domain, which I had the pleasure of visiting this morning. When I first visited it some years ago it was a mere wilderness, unkept and uncarcd for, with little to attract or interest the visitor. To-day I watched the motor mower at work, the boys from the adjoining school playing cricket on the smoothly grassed oval, and inspected with pleasure the newly erected summer house and the shelter shed, and also the Hunter Shaw memorial children’s playground, with its swings, horizontal bar, soe-saws, and slide, and noted that ample seating accommodation was provided for parents and others who might be looking after the children visiting the Domain. The well trimmed hedges and grandstand and the general surroundings and appearance of the ground interested me greatly, arid I was further pleased to note the convenient lay-out of the camping ground for motorists, so admirably sheltered. The Domain is certainly a great asset to the town, and I know nf few towns of the same size and population in the Dominion possessing such an attractive recreation ground. The picmorial entrance gates, commemorating tho sacrifice of those who perished in the Great War, but ■‘whose names liveth for evermore,” arc appropriately enough mot' forgotten, and “he who runs.may read” their names inscribed on the tablets which adorn the pillared entrance gates. Again, Sir, congratulations to the good people of Patca. —Yours, etc., Patca, October 30. VISITOR.
