FAREWELL SOCIAL.

TO AIP. AND AIKS. SHEEN. A very large number of members ol St. Stephen’s Church and friends assembled on Thursday evening in St. Stephen’s Hall, the occasion being to bid farewell to Air. and Airs. Sheen and family, who left Waverley on Saturday for Christchurch. A short musical -programme had been arranged, the following contributing items: Alesdamos Tennant, Harvey, Fames, ALiss Oliver, and Air. Boyer. Some very amusing competitions created much interest, and were won by Airs. W. Alat thews. Airs. James, Aliss Lexie Adlam, and Aliss Joan Watkins.

During the evening card enthusiasts -njoyed some bridge-. Before the passing round of the supper. Mr. Tennant, vicar’s warden, said they had come to the most important part of their programme. They had met together to farewell Air. and Mrs. Sheen and family, and to wish them God speed. Air. Sheen was one of their vestry men, and had boon one of their most willing workers in the church and elsewhere, in fact, he thought he had been one of the most popular postmasters, and they were all sorry to lose him. Continuing Ms remarks, Air. Tennant said Airs, and the Misses Sheen had also done such splendid work in the church, and they ’felt that they could not let them go without showing some sign of appreciation. Airs. Tennant then handed to Air. Sheen a gold albert, to Airs. Sheen an inscribed wristlet watch, to Alisses Verna and Marcia beautiful limestone necklets, and to Aliss Alison a pearl necklet. ’

Air. Sheen, in replying, said he scarcely know how to thank them. Ho deeply appreciated Mr. Tennant’s kind remarks. Their stay in Waverley had been short but very happy, and he would like to bespeak for his successor the same friendship and goodwill. Mr. Sheen, in closing his remarks, thanked those present on behalf of Airs. Sheen and the family, and himself, 'for the beautiful gifts they bad received, and said any little that be bad done bad been a pleasure to bim.

All joined in singing “For They Arc Jolly Good Fellows.’’ after which supper was banded round and much enjoyed. The 'singing of “ Auld Lang Syne’’ brought to a close a very pleasant evening.
