HURLEY CRASHES
BEANE ALMOST DESTROYED. ATHENS sI.USH CAUSES ACCIDENT. Captain Hurley crashed when leaving the Tatoi aerodrome, Athens. The machine was almost destroyed. The ait men were bruised. ‘‘After .conquer!n}*y the -Mediterranean we landed at Athens aerodrome in mud and Mush,’-' writes Captain Hurley. “We-, decided we must leave immediately or remain indefinitely. The piano was just gaining speed when it stuck in a boggy .stretch and the wheels .sank. We avoided a headlong crash into a ravine and hopped a chasm, but the wheels hit a high bank with terrific force. “The machine somersaulted and landed on its back wrecked. We wriggled mil from 'the .‘wreckage with minor cuts and abrasions. “We determined to see the job through. The Spirit of Australia survives. We propose to secure a new machine from England, which will cost £7300. Wo feel confident that our countrymen will stand by us."
