Opunake defeated Patea on the local ground on Saturday by IT points to C, after a very keenly-contested and at times spectacular struggle. Some idea of tlte Vigorous nature of the game may be gleaned from the fact that play was stopped no fewer than nine times through injuries to players, Messrs. Pauling and Black, members of the local branch of the St. John Ambulance Association, having, quite a busy time rendering first aid. Fortunately no injury was of a serious nature, although Hunt, who had received a kick on the head, retired before the close of the game, Frank McKenna taking his place. Patea lost the toss and had to kick oil’ with the wind and sun against them and a free kick to the visitors enabled the latter to attack, but Wills saved by taking the ball at his toe up the held.
