The courts were open for play from October 7 and the official opening took place on November 10, when His Worship the Mayor kindly attended and performed the ceremony. Again we were fortunate in having a very nice day, aild the lawns, "which were showing the results of the attention and top-dressing bestowed upon them, were all that coma be desired. During the afternoon competitions were held and everyone seemed well satisfied. During the season we were able to play two teams, the junior team being active for the first time in the history the club. The senior team played only two inter-club matches, Manilla at Manaia and Manaia at Patea. The junior team played three inter-club matches as follows: WavexTey at Patea (unfinished), I. .- wera Parka at Patea, Waverley at Wa : verley. Club representatives wire again very successful in tournaments, Mrs. Horner winning the B. grade handicap singles , at the New Zealand tournament at Palmerston North, Mrs. Glcnny with her partner winning the handicap doubles, and Mrs. Horner the handicap singles at Wanganui tournament. The A. team won the Taranaki teams’ championship, Mrs. Masters the handicap singles, Mrs. Masters and Mr. Gibbs the handicap doubles at New Plymouth, where also- Paten players wore runners-up in both the handicap and championship doubles, and at the Hawera tourney Patea teams, A. and 8., also did well. The chib is still fortunate in retaining the services of Mr; Earp as caretaker of the greens, and under his care our lawns have been better than over before. To those old members who arc joining again sad to prospective members, wc extend a -welcome, and trust that they will not. only have a successful and pleasant season but will always endeavour to keep the club interests to the fore, and also try and secure outside interest and new members. Finally I personally have to thank members for taeir ico-op;cration and assistance, w’hich have helped considerably to make my duties easier.
