PATEA DOMAIN BOARD

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting - of the Pa lea A Domain Board was held on Thursday, Mr. E. E. Hemingway presiding. Messrs. Jenkins, .Roberts, and Thomson were also present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The committee’s report, as under, was read and adopted:— REPORT OP COMMITTEE. Your committee have pleasure in reporting that since the last meeting of the board further improvements to the Domain have been effected. The whole of tho hedges have nosv been trimmed and. the balance of the paths re-formed, giving the Domain a neat and tidy appearance. A parking place for tourists’ ears has also boon arranged for in the avenue near the roar of the sired, and the whole of the sports ground has been rolled and the running track twice over. Sheep have been grazed, on the Domain, keeping down the grass, which has been coming away strongly. To assist in this direction tho whole of the fences were gone round and made sheep-proof. Your committee arc pleased to report that the management of the World’s Pictures have very generously offered the net proceeds of tho picture dance to be hold on tho I-lth inst. and arrangements are being made with the various sports bodies to assist in making the function a isuecoss. Too much praise cannot be given to the management of the World's Pictures for their generous and patriotic offer, which should result in the necessary funds being ■obtained for painting the memorial ’gates and the guard-rail around the oval. The sum of £1 has been received during the month for the sale and removal of dead trees. There arc still more to be disposed of if anyone requires any firewood at a cheap ffgure ( and is prepared to undertake the work of cutting it up. Your committee regret to have to report that the proposed shop day was not held, as it was considered that the support offering would not warrant the effort. Over 100 letters asking for support were sent out, with a request for a reply, stating what articles would be given, but as not a single reply was received it was thought that the shop would be a failure. .Since then, however, your committee have ascertained that several persons were contemplating sending- produce, etc., for sale at the shop had it been held, and to these tho committee would desire to tender their hearty''thanks. Later, should it be doomed advisable to bold a shop day, the fact Avill be duly advertised in the columns of the “Press” and .no circulars sent out. Work for the month that your committee hope to have carried out is the painting of the memorial gates and hand-rail round the oval, the further rolling of the sports ground, and keeping the-paths and hedges cut. The work of painting the largo shed must also be taken in hand when funds permit. It was unanimously resolved that the hearty thanks of the board be tendered the management of the World's Pictures for their generous assistance in regard to tho Domain, and also to Mrs. Gardiner for a handsome box of chocolates to bo competed for.

The general committee were authorised to procure l the necessary paint for the handrail round the oval. The matter of swamp in Mr. Moore's paddock was referred to the committee for report at the next meeting. Accounts were read and passed for. payment and the hoard rose.
