PATEA DOMAIN BOARD

ordinary Meeting,

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Patea Domain Board was held on Thursday, Mr. E. F. Hemingway presiding. Messrs. Papps, Thomson, Fairweather, Jenkins, and Cronin were also present. The Ground Committee reported - as follows: —The committee have pleasure in reporting that the whole of the Domain now presents an entirely different appearance, practically all of the hedges having been trimmed and paths that, were overgrown, particularly at the Oxford Street end of the Domain, reformed Handrails have also been placed on the small footbridge over the drain' loading to the swamp and teeats erected in various portions of the Domain. The door in the Cricket Club’s room under the grandstand hqs been repaired and a start made to chip the rust from the memorial - gatos prior to having them repainted. Funds at present will not permit of the painting of the handrail round the- playing area, nut this work will not be lost sight of. Arrangements have been made for sheep tp be grazed until the cricket season opens, in order that the board may be saved the expense of mowing the playing area and the portion outside the ring fence. Your committee recommends: (1) That steps be taken to hold a ball at ah early date for the purpose of raising the. necessary funds to put ih hand the painting of the gates, fence, rail, and shed, and if possible, to purchase a supply of flowering shrubs for planting before the planting season ends;- <2) that your committee be authorised to arrange for a parking place near the shed; and (3) to dispose of any dead trees.

The chairman reported a, credit balance of £ls and accounts payable amounting to £l4. It was decided that the report be adopted,-■ and the chairman !bc authorised to convene a meeting of ladies at aoa early date with regard to the proposed dance. It was resolved that the board arrange iwlth Mr. Stevens to keep the playing ground in order for £1 per ■week during the summer months, the Cricket Club to pay half the cost. It, was also resolved that the chairman be authorised to arrange for rolling the playing area. It was decided that Mr. Sherwood bo notified that the board requires the use of the small garden as a nursery for trees.

It was also resolved to meet at 3 Sunday to inspect the Domain. Am account for £l2 7s 5d was read ■and passed for payment and the board rose.
