MONTHLY MEETING The ordinary monthly meeting tv as held in the Borough Chambers on Monday night, his Worship the Mayor presiding. Crs Fiulayson, Kcrrisk, Dunklcy, Naismith, Whiteford, Jones, and Houcyficld tvcrc also present. (Jr Kcrrisk apologised for the absence of Or Ramsbottom. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE Correspondence tvas read as under; — ■Messrs Ellis and Co. wrote offering Union asphalt at £B.per ton, gross, delivered i.o.b. New Plymouth. The letter was received, Cr Fiulayson remarking that the Council had no '■ honey for new work. ’ W Mr Vodanovich wrote calling atten- ■ to the state of the footpath in Wjput of his premises. 'Worship said the footpath was exceptionally bad. Cr Finyayson said the holes could be Jiiicd up in readiness for tarring. The matter was left in the hands of the streets supervisor, with power to act. Mr A. Davidson wrote asking permission to cart a little turf from the si.ee of ihc road in Essex Street or Kent cared. The request tvas granted, subject to the street supervisor’s approval. Mrs Lawson wrote asking permission to remove the lavatory attached to her residence recently purchased from Mrs Eatana. The request was granted. Mrs M. Harken wrote asking for repairs to the dwelling occupied by her and belonging to the Council. The mutter was left in the hands of the Mayor, with power to act in conjunction with the building inspector. GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE REPORT The General Purposes Committee’s report was read and adopted. ELECTRIC LIGHT REPORT The Electric Light Coimnittc ’# report was also read and adopted. A supplementary report from the Electrical Engineer was also read, stating that the gas producer was satisfactory, with the exception of the water jacket, which was cracked. The following' charges for current for motive power were recommended: — For first 50 units, 4d uctj all over 50 units, 3d net. At a trial of the gas plant, one of the exciter field coils get overheated, compelling the plant to. be shut down. Cr Naismith said the coils should have, been sent away with the armature when the latter was forwarded for repairs. It was decided that all four fields be sent away to be tested. FINANCE COMMITTEE The Finance Committee’s report was read and adopted. GENERAL ‘The Town Clerk reported on the visit of his Worship the Mayor and himself to the Municipal Conference. The report was received and the Town Clerk thanked for it. The Town Clerk was instructed to take steps to recover the rent duo by a tenant of one of the Council’s houses. The Council went into‘committee to consider matters in connection with McComisky Bros.’ lease. On resuming, the Mayor reported that the Council had decided to adhere to its original offer of paying half the costs incurred in connection with McComisky Bros.’ lease, and that the balance (£3 18/9) had been made up by a donation. Cr Kcrrisk asked that Mg meter ‘be tested, as it was not registering enough, in his opinion.

Tho Engineer said he would put in a new meter shortly. It was decided to sweep the channels of the main streets twice a week in future. .. ji-. The Council then rose.
