POSTPONED.
<s>- —— THE DAIRY POOL BILL. TO PROCEED NEXT SESSION. The postponement of the Dairy Pool Bill until next session was announced by the Prime Minister in the House of Representatives on Saturday. Cabinet had met that morning to consider what should ibe done, said Mr Massey, and had decided that the Bill should not proceed this year. ‘ ‘ I am bound to say that a great majority both in the House and in the country are in favour of the Bill," said Mr Massey. “But there is opposition to the Bill. I know several members of the House had sufficient confidence in the Government to vote for the Bill although there was much in it that they did not approve. The Government does not intend to put the Bill through this session. It will be much better to give people on both sides an opportunity bo consider the proposals during the recess and endeavour to arrive at a solution of the difficulty. “We can promise that the Bill will be re-introduced as soon as possible after the beginning of the next session, and I hope and believe we shall be able to put something into law that will be for the benefit of the dairy farmers throughout New Zealand, and for the benefit of the country generally." Earlier in the afternoon Mr S. G. .Smith (Taranaki) had given notice of a series of amendments to be moved when the Bill was at the committee stage. ‘.I quite understand," remarked the Prime Minister, who evidently believed that the amendments were intended to obstruct the passage of the BUI.
