SPORTS GROUND COMMITTEE
A'meeting of the Sports Ground Committee was held on Tuesday, Mr. J. H. Cronin presiding. Messrs Strouts, Gunn Godfrey, F. McKenna, Cunningham, Hemingway and F. Locker (Sec)-, were also present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Patea Cricket Club thanking the Committee for improvements to the pitch and asking for water to be laid into'the Domain •'"’The Secretary stated that a good deal of trouble had been gone to in making the pitch which would be all the better for a good drenching. After a brief discussion of ways and means, it was unanimously resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the Chairman, Secretary and Mr. Gunn to make arrangements to have the pitch watered and go into the matter of a permanent water supply and report to a future meeting. The Secretary of the Patea and District Public Schools Amateur Athletic Association wrote asking for the use of the Domain ground for a seven-a-sidc tournament and for a sports gathering. It was unanimously decided on the motion of Mr. Locker seconded by Mr. Strouts that the ground bo granted them free of cost members expressing pleasure at the inception of the Association and wishing it every success. The Secretary reported that the Egmont Street hedge had been, removed and an cleagnus hedge planted, seats had been removed an placed in a line with the trees, rushes etc had beeu removed and gorse grubbed. The sports ground had been regularly rolled and cut and tennis courts mown and rolled. The Crocpiet Club wore at present looking after their own ground. The Cricket pitch had been rolled and sown down in grass. Messrs Ncilson and Nansett had very kindly given three day's work clearing poplar, repairing sheds etc. It was decided that a very hearty vole of thanks be given Messrs Neilson and Nansett for their efforts oh behalf of the Committee. It was also decided on the motion of Mr. Hemingway seconded by Mr. Cunningham that the rents from the sports bodies be used for maintenance of the ground. it was decided that no further football matches be held on the ground during the present season alter the 17th inst. • , It was decided on the motion of M Strouts that some Maerocarpa trees be planted on the Egmont Street boundary in continuation of the present fence to the Crocpiet CourtsIt wSfe also decided that the present fence iu the centre of the ground be removed. Mr. Locker brought forward tho quest--1 ion of the representation of the Groouet and Tennis Clubs on the committee members unanimously" expressing the opinion that each club should have equal representation on the committee. Mr. Locker gave notice rto move at the next meeting that the constitution be altered with V view to each club having equal representation on the committee. There being ao further business the meeting adjourned.
