Mr. strmhers-Crowley .Borough Engineer. was unfortunate enough to be rather badly burned about the face on Saturday afternoon while attending to the gas plant. At the Annual Conference of Taranaki Fire Brigades held last week. Secretary C. H. Carey, Patea, was elected Junior Vice-President of the Association. The Prince of Wales and the Duke of York arc Vicing rapidly promoted through the various degrees of Freemasonry. On Wednesday they joined the Royal Arch. Air. John Payne, the Labour man who defeated the Hon. G. Fowlds for the Grey Lynn seat in 3!>13, is now secretary to Air. J. Dooley, actingP rentier of Xew South Wales. The Labour Party has nominated Air. P. Hickey for the position of Alayor of Wellington. Air. Hickey is known as the author of the emphatic statement, “To hell with agreements.” Alcssrs. AlcKenzie,, Norwood. and AVright, have been requested to stand for the position, and if they all go to the poll Air. Hickey’s prospects of election will lie good.
