In a Court case he was credited with having received 50 bottles of whisky in 10 days, and he admitted 'that at one period he had taken two bottles a night for a month, not counting what ho drank during the day.

Aii amateur theatrical performance usually brings forth some unrehearsed incident'which adds a little .to the gaiety or the evening. One night recently in a town not very far distant from Aiekland a party of amateurs produced a small farcical comedy in aid of one of the local charities. 'For amateurs the actors were doing quire well, but the gentleman playing one of the loading roles had to wear a moustache, and not having time to grow a natural one, had to be content with the artificial substitute. The spirit gum, with which he attached it to his face, was not in a good working mood that night, and in one of the most impassioned speeches the moustache left the spot on his upper lip where good moustaches are supposed to remain, and fluttered iloorwards. The actor caught it in its descent, flung it into the wings, and carried on with his lines, to the great amusement of those who paid to sec the show. There the incident should have ended and been temporarily forgotten, but it did not, for in the wings there stood one of those well-meaning people who unwittingly cause so much trouble in the world. This gentleman, in an honest endeavour to assist everyone, picked lip the offending moustache, put some more spirit gum on it, and flung it back to the stage where it landed —ou the head of the leading lady.
