PATEA PATRIOTIC LEAGUE

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A mooting of the Executive of the Patca Patriotic League was held last night, Messrs Larcombo, Honcyficld, Stephenson, Locker, and Hemingway and Strouts being present. Correspondence was read as under : From the Wangaimi-Waitotnra Patriotic League urging that soldiers' settlement work be dealt with by the Repatriation Committees instead of by the Lands Dopartmeit. Mr. Iloncyficld said he fully agreed with every word of the letter. The Department was too dilatory in its methods.

Mr. Locker said he way quite in sympathy with the proposal. Only recently the owner of a farm offered to a soldier for settlement purposes knew three weeks ago that his offer had been rejected, but no word had yet been sent' to the soldier interested.

The suggestion was unanimously ad opted.

The Taranaki War Relief Association wrote stating that clothing allowances should in future be made only in necessitous cases.

The Association also wrote stating that all loans required for purchase of furniture should be made to Repatriation Boards. No action was taken in the matter. The action of the Secretary in granting clothing allowances to 14 returned men was confirmed, as was also a number of grants to soldiers in hospital..

The Secretary stated that the work was not decreasing as was anticipated. He could, therefore, seo no other thing for it but to give it up. He would be glad to carry on until a successor is appointed.

After a brief discussion it was unanimously resolved that the resignation be accepted with regret, and that the League place on record its high appreciation of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. Strouts during the past five years. It was also decided that Mr. Strouts' offer to carry on until a successor is appointed be accepted, and that a general meeting of the League be convened to consider the appointment of a successor, the Chairman to act as convenor. There being no further business the meeting terminated.
