FIRE AT KAKARAMEA

A fire occurred at Kakaramea on Friday afternoon about 3 o’clock in a dwelling occupied by Mr Burgess and family. The fire, which is supposed to have originated in the chimney, was first seen by Mrs Burgess, who was sitting on the veranda at the time, and who noticed smoke coming the doorway. A number of neighbours were soon on the spot, but as there was no water available nothing could be done to save the building, and all of the contents saved was a clothes basket full of clothes, the whole of the furniture being destroyed, including a piano valued at £IOO.
