MILITARY TRAINING.
Some Drastic Changes. As a reeult of the recent visit of Sir lau Hamilton there axe likely to be some drastic changes in the system of military trailing throughout the Dominion, According to the latest reports it is proposed to make the organisation geographical rather than regimental. As a consequence the headquarters of the Xtlh Regiment, Taranaki Rifles, will be removed from Hawera to New Plymouth. Captain McDonnell will be in command, with a quarterntnaster-sergeant and sergeantmajor. Captain M’Dounell will be responsible for the training of all arms, including cadets, between New Plymouth and StratfordSimilarly Captain Dovey will be responsible for the area between Eltham and Waverley. Captain Stevens will in future be responsible for the whole area of Taranaki, including also the whole of the administration and records. He will have the title of Area Commander, and Captains M’Donnell and Dovey will be sub-area commanders, Subject to the approval of Parliament, it is intended that back.blocks men shall serve ten days in camp instead of having night drills as at present. The camps will be held at the company headquarters, and tnere will bo separate camps for territorials and cadets, The training of the town men will be as at present, bu; for the backblocke men there will be several small camps dotted over the province.
