FATAL QUARRY ACCIDENT. An inquest was held at Watotara yesterday afternoon touching the death of *a man named W McGowan who was killed while working in a grayol pit. On Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock the deceased, in company with a mate, was working in the pit when a large quantity of earth came down, compietely burying him. His mate ran for assistance but it was not until 7 o’clock in the evening that the body was got out. The jury returned a verdict of accidentally killed.

RIFLE SHOOTING. The fifth competition for the Wairoa Defence Rifie Club trophies took place on Saturday last. The following are the scores: —
