Patea I t Waverley I, The football match between the Patea and Waverley senior teams was played at Waverley on Saturday. In view of the fact that the previous game between the teams had resulted in a draw, a great deal of interest was shown in the match quite a large crowd awaiting themselves of the fine day to be present. The match proved to be -one of the moat exciting of the season, it being anybody’s game up to the call of time. Patea did most of the attacking and had hard Inok in not scoring on more than one occasion, but the home team musk bs complimented on the sterling defence put up which gained them the victory. The game was at times unnecessarily rough both sides striving their utmost to win. For the winners Leo kicked a penalty goal and D Walker scored a try whilst Moran kicked a penalty goal for the losers. Mr P H Roche refereed in an able and impartial manner. Alton I v Waitotara l. The Alton seniors defeated Waitotiraby 3 points to nil, Alton II v. Waltotara 11. The Alton Juniors on Saturday defeated the Waitotara Juniors by 19 points to 5. Tries were scored by Green, Dick and Hinga, whilst Harold Hodge potted a goal and converted t .vo tries' L Carmichael at full back played a safe game, B Carmichael also being conspicuous with some good play. It was resolved to wire Poverty Bay and offer them a match on September 3 at Taranaki. Mr A L Humphries was appointed manager of (he Taranaki team to visit Auckland on August 1. School Competition; Waverley Convent beat Whonuakura. Draw for next Saturday : Waverley Scats v Patea Stite at Patea. The Hurlo.yville school boys played the Manutabi boys at Alton, Hurlayville winning by 59 points to 6. Mr Pentecost refereed.
