The Patea Football Club.

There is wo believe a strong feeling amongst the supporter* of out national game in the town and district, that the season should not be allowed to close without an opportunity being afforded tb,e public to express their appreciation of tho work of the Patoa Football Club during tho past season; Not only have the club earned the pround distinction of possessing both the senior and junior champion teams in the Wairoa Sub-Union, but they havo'the additional satisfaction of having boen the first senior football team to bring a Cup to tho town. On more than one occasion in the past, the local club has succeeded in gaining a place in tho final Championship for the provinco but hitherto it has failed to win premier honours. The victory this season is all tho moro meritorious inasmuch as the task of winning championship honours at the commencement of tho season appeared out of the question", the club at ono time being bottom of the list and no less than six points below the leadiDg team. With true bulldog courage and pertinacity however, and bearing in mind tho old footballer's maxim that "tho game is never lost until the whistle for "no side " has been blown," they played tho game with renewed vigour till in the end they achieved a record of which any team could bo moro than proud. During tho whole of the season the senior team in the nine matches it has played, has won seven and scored no less than 136 points, 43 only being scored against them. The Junior team has done equally well, losing only one match during the season and scoring 89 points with only 18 soored against them. Under such circumstances it is due to the teams that same steps should be taken by supporters, of the garni to acknowledge their prowess on the field in some tangible manner. We hope that the matter will be taken up heartily with successful results.
