S.S. AORERE IN TROUBLE.

Quite unexpectedly the small coastal steimer Aorere arrived back at Wellington from Patea at 10 p.m. on Friday says the " Dominion." The little vessel sailed for Patea at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. and missed the morning tide at that port. From inouirie* made on board it wa9 found that the Aorere had been subjected j to a pretty rough handling whilst she j was endeavouring to cross the Patea Bar at 5 p.m. on Thursday. It is stated that Captain Fisk, her master, received signals to " take the bar," and put his vessel's head towards the river entrance. As soon as the Aorere got into the channel she stuck hard and fasf, and remained there for about half an hour. There was a considerable south, westerly roll at the time, and the oeas swept the little •« hooker "fore and aft, flooding the cabin and engine-room. The after-rail and bulwarks were carried away, also several deck fittings. At length, however, Captain Fisk was enabled to get his ship off, and she steamed out to the open sea again. It was certainly a near thing, and the Aorere was considered lucky in getting off so lightly. The extent of the damage was not quite known last evening, but it has been ascertained that the Aorere is strained in the after-part. She was not leaking, but will have to be placed on the slip for re.caulking.
