FIRE BRIGADE v. COUNCIL

THE CONTROL OF THE WATER SUPPLY. Daring the past fortnight many residents have had theiv tanks replenished from the Borough supply. It appears, that they made application to the captain of the Fire Brigade. To this course the Borough Council took exception contending that the Brigade were only in charge of the , water for fire prevention purposes and that no water could be supplied for domestic purposes without a permit from the Council, At a meeting of the Fire Brigade on Friday night the following letter was read from the Town Clerk, lam directed to inform you that as the control of the water mains is in the hands of the Fife Brigade for fire purposes only you are on no account to supply any water to • the inhabitants of the town without < first getting a permit from this office. This is imperative and your is'requested to this matter.” There was a lengthy discussion over the letter the members of the Brigade being indignant at the attitude of the Council as they held that the Brigade would invariably see that there was plenty of water available before giving any away. Finally the following resolution was carried unanimously, “ That this Brigade considers a slur has been cast on the captain and they refuse to act on any permits issued by your Council for the purpose of supplying water to the citizens of this town for domestic purposes.”
