The Premier at Auckland. A Great Reception. Auckoaxd, May 31. The Hon. the Premier addressed the citizens of Auckland in the Choral Hall last night. Mayor Goldie presided. The hall was crowded, hundreds being unable to obtain admission. The Hon. Thomas Thompson, Minister of Justice ; Hons. McCullough, Swanson and Jennings, jVPs.HC. ; Messrs J. J. Holland, and J. CTowther, M’s.fJ.E., were on the platform. The Premier was received with great cheering, and spoke for three hours aud a quarter, ending at 11.1b, devoting himself to traversing Captain Eus sell’s speech principally, and gave a programme of the Government’s progress for next session. He ay as in favor of Auckland as the port of call for the ’Frisco mail service,. and was endeavouring to get a connection for Wellington in place of the discontinued Vancouver service, and would, inqu’ove the distribution of the ’Frisco mails throughout the colony. He Avould have 'reports of experts on the Central and Stratford routes ready for Parliament. The Government would appi’oach these questions Avith an open mind. The Premier received an excellent reception and was cheered on closing. Dr McArthur moved, aud Mr Archibald, of Mangaere, seconded the following resolution which Avas unanimously carried —“That this meeting of Auckland citizens expresses, its thanks to the Eight Hon. E. J. Seddon, Premier, for the very able address just delivered.” The meeting also resolved to place on record its continued confidence in the policy and administration of the present Government. —Carried unanimously.
