THE TOTE.
The following is the full text of the Bill introduced into the House of Representatives by Mr Caruell 1. The Short Title of this Act is, “ The Totalisator Abolition Act, 1895,” and it shall be read and construed as a part of “ The Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1881,” and “ The Gaming Act, 1894,” (herein referred to as '* principal Acts ”). ■. 2. The instrument known as the totalisator, and every maahina or instrument of a like kind, or conducted upon the like principal, shall be and be held to be an instrument for gaming and wagering within the meaning of the principal Acts. Every such instrument, after this Act comes into force, may be seized and taken possession of by any police officer or constable and forthwith destroyed. U. Any person having a totalisatorsnackine or instrument of a like kind in his possession on any racecourse, or upon any public place, road, street, court, alley, open place, or thoroughfare of any sort, notwithstanding the same or any part thereof may be situated on private property, and also on all places wherever the public may assemble, and whether money may be paid by the public for admission to such places or not, or keeping any house in which any such instrument for gaming shall be found, shall, on conviction thereof, be liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds, or, in the discretion of the convicting Justices, be imprisoned with or without hard labour for any terra not exceeding six months. 4. Section forty-six of “ The Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1881,” and section six of “The Gaming Act, 1894,” are hereby repealed. 3. This. Act shall not come into force until one year after its passing.
