LIGHT NAVAL ENCOUNTER
OFF DUTCH COAST. (Received 11.2 a.m.) (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. October 1. The Admiralty states that light coastal forces intercepted an enemy convoy of about six supply ships with a powerful escort off Terschelling. Holland, about mid nighty last night. The convoy was immediately engaged and a torpedo hit was scored amidships on a medium ‘dzixl supply ship which blew up. One cl our motorboats was hit and stopped but as the action was very close. t° the enemy coast it was impossible to tow her back. While she was being engaged by four of the enemy one c«f our motor torpedo boats closed with her and took off all the crew who set fire to their boat before leaving. When last seen, the alrtndpned boat was blazing furiously, still engaged by the enemy. The remainder of our forces sustained only superficial damage mid returned safely to harbour. Casualties were not heavy. Terschelling is at the entrance to the Zuyder Zee
