NATIONALISTS SPLIT
KYLE SEVERS CONNECTION. Electric Telegraph,—Press association WELLINGTON. October 2. A statement by Mr H. S. S. Kyle, Nationalist M.P. for Riccarton. that he intended to sever his connection with the National Party and become an Independent was a fresh development in the political situation yesterday. Mr Kyle revealed that lie had opposed the party caucus resolution calling on the six representatives of the Opposition to withdraw from the War Administration and the War Cabinet. He said he was taking liis stand by the Minister of Armed Forces and War Co-ordina-tion, Mr Coates, whose other sup|H>rters at Tuesday night’s caucus are understood to have been Mr Massey (Franklin) and Mr Endean (Remuera). RESIGNATION OF MINISTERS. Air Holland and three of his colleagues, the Minister of Primary Production for War Purposes. Air Poison, the Minister of National Service, Air Broadfoot, and the Minister of Civil Defence, Air Bodkin, officially resigned as numbers of the Executive Council yesterday. Their resignations were handed to the Clerk of the Executive Council, Air C. A. Jeffery, for transmission through the constitutional channel to ids Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral. No indication has yet been given by Mi Contes and Air Hamilton as to tin- attitude they intend to adopt. Mr Hamilton is not expected back in Wellington till Monday, and meetings of War Cabinet since Tuesday night have been attended by Mr Coates. Asked last night if any steps had been taken to reallocate the portfolios and Ministerial responsibilities surrendered by the Opposition Ministers who have resigned, the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, said that this question wac receiving his consideration.
