WORK IN THE BOROUGH

FOREMAN’S REPORT. Rubbish removal was made on 4th September, two loads. Reservoir: Settling pans have been cleaned twice, water from top intake, has been cut out owing to excess water. Certain improvements to top intake will have to be carried out under instructions from Health Inspector. Cemetery: A start was made on excavations of soldiers’ burial ground but had to be left off temporarily owing to wet weather. This work will be completed as soon as the ground dries out. Footpaths: : Owing to the month being a very wet one, very little footpath patching was carried out; paths were patched in Mangahao Road from Alain Street to AVillowbank (North side), and from Alain to Crewe Street (South side), and Alain Street from King Street to Tiraumea Road (East side). Toby Boxes have been raised in Huia Street, Albert and Victoria Streets. Footpath in Cambridge St. to Airs Upston’s fias now boon metalled and completed. Channel and Kerbing: Sedcole St. 16 chains have been completed, this being a 12 inch channel and a six inch kerb. Huia Street, 4£ chains have been completed, this being a lo inch channel and 9 inch kerb, making a total of this class of work completed 205 chains. Further work of this nature is under construction in Sedcole Street. Aletal: 47 cubic yards metal and three yards sand has been carted for channel and kerbing construction. Roads: 26 cubic yards have been used for pot-holing various roads, metal run on under-mentioned roads: Sedcole Street SI yards, Huia Street 2\ yards, Leading bank at Salevards (Huxley Street) 5 yards, Cambridge Street 5 yards.

Culverts have been put in for the under-mentioned:— Air H. Beales, Tui Street: Air Bluett. Crewe Street; Air H. Styles. Sedcole Street. Two yards of metal was used for this work

Bobbish Dump: Gate has been made and swung to give access to official pit ; a second pit will be dug during current month and fence erected around same to keep pigs, etc., out. Waste metal box at Farmers’ Distributing Coy. lias been cleared twice weekly.

Trees ; Pruning of trees in Princess and Afain Streets has now been completed and all primings carted to rubbish dump. Alangahao Road: This road has been patched during the month. The quantities of materials used were : 1 l drums of colas, 2 yards } inch chips; truck used "I.’ days 2 men 1.1 days each. Recommendations:—

(1). That drain at north end of Borough by Donald’s bo deepened to allow water to get away more quickly.—Left to Overseer.

(2b That drains in Recreation Ground be cleaned out.—To be carried out.

(3). That the Council consider letting of contract for further metal supply.—To deferred for future consideration.
