PAHIATUA SHOW A GREAT SUCCESS

TWENTY-EIGHTH FIXTURE

EHTRIES AHEAD OF LAST YEAR

OUTSTANDING EVENT REVEALS DISTRICT’S WEALTH

With excellent entries in ail classes and side-show space packed to capacity the Pahiatua A. and P. Association’s annual show on Saturday was one of the most successful ever held. Although for the ninth year in succession rain fell during the day this was no more than a slight drizzle and in no way interfered with the enjoyment of the large crowd that attended, or with the long programme of events, which was got off in record time.

The President, Mr H. Cotter, kept a watchful eye on things during the day, and must have found everything in order, the Secretary, Mr J. A. Walsh, and his two able helpers, Miss Eileeri Burt and Daphne Eilers having everything well ujider control, and getting results out in quick time. These and the other very efficient officials are to b© congratulated on the smooth running of the Show.

The entries, which as a whole were very truly representative of the district, were the best in the history of the Association. In the cattle classes they were well in excess of last year’s total, the Jerseys being the most outstanding, with quality a big feature. In the Jersey yearling class alone there were 19 entries. In numbers and quality the hack classes were well ahead of last year, while the sheep were well up tc previous years.

A contributing factor to the enjoyment of the shew was Russ Merrie’s loua-speaker system, and the running cemmeniaryof the jumping events given in this way was most useful.

The gate receipts, which totalled £l4B 5s showed a slight increase on last year, and the attendance was estimated at 4000—the largest in the history of the Association, this including a greatly increased membership. Results of the judging:
