A pleasant interlude- in the business of last night’s meeting oi tin Pahiatua Borough Council took place when a presentation was made mi behalf of the Council to the late librarian, Aliss Eunice Chatwin, in honour ol the latter*s approaching marriage to Air L. Truscott. Air S. T. Turney, who lias been chairman of the Library Committee for a number of years, said it gave him great pleasure to be in attendance to ask the to make the presentation. He said that Aliss Chatwin had been librarian lor the past 12 a ears and a very successful one too. Her bright nature bad been a great asset and had made her veiy popular with the reading room and library patrons. He was glad that Aliss Chatwin alter her marriage was going to live in Pahiatim and said he was sure that the library’s loss was going to be Air Tins* ott’s gain, averring that if she proved as successful a wife as she had been, a librarian Alv Truscott would be a very lucky man indeed. (Applause). Concluding the the speaker said they were very fortunate in securing a successor to Aliss Chatwin who was following the good lead set by her predecessor. Airs J. D. Wilson was the next speaker and she remarked that the Borough Council had desired to make a slight recognition of Aliss Chatwin's long and faithful service as librarian and was very pleased to be associated with the presentation. The speaker knew that Aliss Chatwin had been noted for lier very constant and. genial attention at the library and had much pleasure in asking her to accept a handsome beaten brass firestand from the Council. The Mayor added a eulogistic reference to Aliss Chatwin who he said had the reputation of being very attentive to her duties, the subscribers being very pleased to have such a helpful lady to aid in the selection of their hooks. He also congratulated Miss Chatwin and Mr Truscott on their coming marriage. Mr Truscott responded on behalf of Afiss Chatwin and thanked the Council very sincerely for the kind thought, saying that she had always enjoyed her work at the library. The speaker mentioned that when he had come to Pahiatua he had to compete, very strongly with the library as Afiss Chatwin lmd-seemed to» spend so much of her time there. A voice: But you won put.
