PAHIATUA RACES

MEETING QUITE SUCCESSFUL JUGGLE WINS MANGAHAO HANDICAP SOUCHONG SCORES IN SPRINT. Dull, but. fine weatjier prevailed yesterday tor the second day of the Pahiatua Racing Club’s annual meeting and the attendance was extremely gratifying. The gate takings on the two days were only £4B less than last year. The track was in perfect order and the racing first-class. An outsider in Juggle won the Mangahao Handicap of a mile and a distance from end to end. The mare is owned of Air H. J- Batten, of Feilding. Full Mark was again second. Souchong, Mr P. F. Wall’s flying gelding. Improved upon his first day’s effort to capture the Electric Handicap in brilliant fashion from Aston. Respite the fact that there were two three-horse races yesterday the totalisator turnover wa»s very well maintained. The machine handled £3798 as against £4303 10s on the second day last year, a drop of £505 10s. The total for the meeting was £7,730 10s, compared with £8961 in 1932, a decrease of £1.230 10s. Nevertheless, by turning over in excess of £7,000, the Club more than cleared itself and resiilts are fully up to anticipations. It is gratifying indeed to know that their courage in going ahead in face of many difficulties has been fully rewarded. The district has maintained its status and the Club its financial balance. The meeting itself was wonderfully ■well conducted. There was no single bitch, no cause for complaint. The publican’s booth was conducted by Mr George Euoni. Palmerston North, and the luncheon and afternoon tea was catered for bv* Mr A. E. South.
