SUPPLY OF MEAT OFFERS BY FARMERS. Tlie executive of the local branch of the Farmers’ Union met in the office of the secretary yesterday afternoon, when there were present: Messrs G. H. Hodd (who presided), J. H. Bremner, G. F. Ho<jgard, H. Cotter, G. H. Brown, J. Campbell, R. C. Yates. J. E. Murphy, J. A*. Gibson, C*. Jennings, and Mr J. L. Heckler ( Aftistertou ) by invitation. A number of important matters were discussed, including children's calf club competitions, the Government subsidy for which lias been withdrawn, the general opinion being that these competitions were worthy of the strongest encouragement, and an endeavour is to be made' to find ways and means of supporting them. It was resolved to again hold the ensilage competition, Mr Bremner venturing the opinion, based on a conversation he had with the judge, Mr Freeman, that two judgmgs were necessary to make a complete success of the contest, one in, say, May, and the other judging in. the month of July or August.

Mr Hodd said that he hoped something would be done to assist the unemployed with meat during the approaching winter, as was done last year. Air (<>tter remarked, “It will be a disgrace to farmers if we let the unemployed go hungry. We should do everything possible to assist them.” “I’ll kill a beast,” said Mr Campbell, with sympathetic w .ninth. The remarks of the chairman end Mr Cotter were endorsed by the meeting an d Mr Campbell thanked for his kind offer, Mr Bremner adding that the chairman (Mr Hodd i was deserving of a little appreciation for the able assistance he had rendered last year in the distribution of meat, and for the regularity of its supply to il e unemployed. It was decided to hold the next executive meeting on the 9th May, when remits for the annual provincial conference will be submitted.
