SHANGHAI, February 26 Continuing their tactics of crippling the Chinese air detieneo* and landing fields the Japanese planes this morning paid a surprise visit to Hangchow where a large number of Chinese planes were transferred from Hunjao, and appeared over Sienchiao, the military aeroplane depot on the outskirts ot Hangciww. Twenty-five bombers loosened big i explosives, sending a devastating shower of bombs clashing on tho hangars and wnrksliops, completely wrecking the airport and landing field and demolishing a number of Chinese military ’planes in a fight before the bombing. It is reported that two Chinese ’planes were shot down and one Japanese forced down. TERRIBLE DAMAGE. (Received 10 a.in.) SHANGHAI, February 26. The air raid by the Japanese is the third this week, resulting in the destruction of the landing field at Hingjao. Other bombers to-day circled over Chapei, destroying a large area around the Markham Road Station. The Japanese ’planes also took advantage of the perfect flying conditions last night, making an, aerial attack on Chapei, dropping an enormous quantity of bombs Terrible damage was inflicted which is indicated hy the large numbers of wounded entering the Settlement this morning. The incessant bombardment of the Chinese lines at Kiangwan is having an effect on the Chinese who though stubbornly resisting are gradually weakening, enabling th e Japanese t<* continue a slow push, resulting in. the capture of another important village, Genehiatsai. after a sharp battle this morning. The drive enabled the Japanese troops completely to surround Kiangwan. Village which successfully all bombardment attacks. The last avenue of retreat is closed, leaving the intrepid Chinese defenders isolated but still fighting. The fighting has temporarily shifted away from Shanghai and is concentrated at Kiangwan..
