NEW ZEALAND MEAT
HOAY IT FARES ON LONDON MARKET.
In a letter dealing with New Zealand meat in England, Air H. R. Ala: kenzie, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, says: “I met Air R. S. Forsyth, manager of the. New Zealand Aieat Producers’ Board in London, and we went through the Smithfield markets together. The Argentine chilled beef looked very fine alongside ours, which comes out dark. It- appeal’s tha-t chilled beef goes off very quickly, and when the market is glutted it is sold very cheaply. However, the market is now si- regulated by New Zealand at any rate that regular supplies come along and are absorbed by butchers. Mr Forsyth tells me that our meat is taken by Navy contracts and by big homes and institutions, otherwise our beef would get. a bad run. However, our frozen mutton and lamb are very popular, and Canterbury lamb is sold, at all first-class shops. Air Forsyth tells me that the war did a lot for New Zealand meat.
