CHEQUE DAY
AT THE FACTORIES. To-day a number of local dairy factories will be making their monthly advance to suppliers of Butter-fat, the favourable spring and good prices prevailing for butter and cheese (espially the latter) enabling directors of dairy concerns t 0 make advances upon a higher level than is usual. This morning the Pahiatua Co-opera-tive Dairy Co., Ltd., paid out £4001) for butter-fat supplied during September, advances being made to cream suppliers at the rate of Is 7d per 18, and to milk suppliers at Is 9d per lb. These are regarded as very fine advances indeed and altogether indicative of the spirit of optimism which pervades the minds of the directors of that progressive concern, and optimism which appears to be well warranted. Much larger supplies of both milk for cheese-making and of home-separated cream were received during September 'than was anticipated and the factory manager reports that the quality of both products was first-class The directors of the company, having made excellent forward sales, were in the happy position of being enabled to make high advances to their suppliers and have done so, the advance in the butter department being as much as 2d per lb of butter-fat.
