ARNST WINS ROAD RAGE
87 COMPETITORS. Electric Telegraph—Pret-'.s Association CHRISTCHURCH. Last Night. A traditional nor-weste.r prevailed for. the Timarii-Chriistehui'ch road race on Saturday. There were many '.patches of loose shingle with clouds of dust, rising .on parts of the road Between Ashburton and Christchurch. The limit men got away sharp to time at 9.5 a.m. and it. was 3.25 when the winner entered the Showground to the accompaniment of a burst af cheering. The winner was B. W. Arnst, who. won tire big amateur load race last Saturday, but was disqualified for allegedly accepting a motor pac*j in the race. On Saturday, he could find n 0 one who could rid,e fast enough to please him and for practically the whole journey, he rode alone. He is a young rider, who will be heard of. as his famous uncles, Jack and Dick Arnst, were in their day. Fastest time was made by S. W. McCann, of New Plymouth, who. like Arnst. had to. make his own pace. Turning into Lincoln road, he showed an amazing burst of speed, reaching 27 miles an honr to ride in alone in fifth place.
