OPERATIONS FOR THE MONTH OVERSEER’S REPORT. The county overseei' Mr S. Macrae) reported as follows at to-day’s monthly meeting of the Pahiatua County GouncTT: Two teams have been employed dumping metal on the main highways and also for various roads in the Konini riding. The remaining teams have been engaged carting metal to the crusher. The tally of metal for the month from the crusher is 666 cubic yards which is, on account of ■the river being in flood, considerably lower than previous months. The No. 1 Albion truck has been metalling in the Konini, Mangaone and Mangatainoka ridings. The repairs necessary to make good the damage 'to the No. 2 Albion truck have been completed, and this machine is again at work. The graders have been employed cutting off shoulders and raking in metal in the Konini, Kaitawa, Makairo, Mangaone and Mangatainoka ..ridings, and also on the various main highways RIDINGS. Mangatainoka : On the Mangarama road water-tables have been cleaned and the decks of two bridges have been repaired. On Suisted’s road metal repairs have been carried out, and work of a similar nature has been done on the Pukemiki road. On the main highways and Ruawhata road, the grader has been employed raking in metal, and the trucks are at present employed metalling the middle road. Mangahao: On the Mangahao road metal has been raked in ; similar work has been carried out on the cemetery and valley loads. Watertables have been cleaned and slips have been removed on the Palmerston North Track. The filling over the new culvert at Bernie’s Hill is at present being proceeded with. Mangaone: On the Mangaone and Pah Valley roads two new culverts have been laid and the deck of the Tane bridge has been repaired. The power grader has operated over these roads, cutting off shoulders and raking in metal. On the Kaitawa main road water-tables have been cleaned and metal has been raked in, making this road, with the exception of the Kaitawa side of the factory hill, .-n good order. Kaitawa: On the Hinemoa Valley road a bridge near Cheekley’s lias been strengthened. At the large slip near the school considerable difficulty has been experienced to keep the road open. I would suggest that when the dry weather arrives an effort be made to control this slip. On the Ridge road water-tables have been cleaned and slips have been removed. Similar work has been carried out on the various roads on the Pori end of this riding.
Kohinui: On Thompson’s road an old culver, collapsed and was replaced with a line of 12-inch pipes. On Hodd’s road water-tables have been cleaned and metal has been raked in. On Miller’s read slips have been removed and a line of 9-inch pipes lias been laid. Some metal repairs are necessary on the Makairo main and Oete roads. Mullin’s road also requires attention. These works can be carried out at an early date. The surfacemen are at present employed widening a cutting on the firaumea North road near Vowel Is. Makairo: On the Makairo _main road water-tables have been cleaned, and several slips have been removed from Piper’s road. On the Coonoor and Mangatoro roads the grader has been employed raking in loose metal and a line of 9-inch pipes has been laid on the former road. If the weather improves during the present month the filling at Ross’ creek could he proceeded with. Makuri: On the Coonoor road metal has been raked in and the culvert filling near Moore’s has been completed. On the Makuri Gorge road metal has been raked in and overhanging scrub has been cut. The metalling on Cameron’s road has been completed. On the Pongaroa hill some metal repairs are necessary which will be carried out in the course of a week or so. On Breeds’ road a culvert has been laid and work is at present proceeding. Konini: On the main road of this riding metal repairs have been carried out. n the Mangamaire road an old bridge has been dismantled and replaced with a filling. On the Rock road metal repairs as far as Beech’s have been carried out and similar work on the Makakalii road is at present m progress. Repairs, have been carried out on the Scarborough, bridge, and Tutaekara roads. Wade’s road now requires attention. Tarnrun : On the Pukewhni and Mangamaire roads metal repairs have been carried out. On the Kopikop.iko and Nikau roads water-tables have been cleaned and metal has been raked in. On the Range road south to Timmin’s property the Toad has been reformed. General surface work has been carried out on the Makoinako side of this riding. Repairs from bridge road to Gardner’s ford will he carried out during the present month.
