WATERSIDERS’ STRIKE MEN SEEK SETTLEMENT. United Presis Assn—By Electric T elegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, October 4. Official negotiations for the settlement of the waterside strike liax’e commenced, Mr Bruce having agreed to meet representatives of the Australian Council of Trades Unions. Prior to the meeting, Mr Bruce conferred with the Attorney-General, the Minister for Home aiid Territories and the vice-president of the Executive Council. No official statement has been issued, but it is learned the men’s representatives will propose that the unions should register their oxx _ n members under the Transport Act, thus ax-oiding individual registration. It is claimed that under this proposal, the objection that registration xx*as designed to destroy union control might be overcome. AIOB RULE. ATTACK ON ITALIANS. ADELAIDE, October 4. A crowd of 500 strikers attacked txxo Italians after the latter had registered and obtained licenses. The Italians, when attacked, dashed into an omnibus, but it xx _ as surrounded by the strikers, xxdio bombarded it-xx-itli wood blocks. The passengers attempted to eject the Italians, but the latter hung on until a. strong force of police* arrived and escorted them to the station. TWO VOLUNTEERS KILLED. MELBOURNE. October 4. Two volunteer labourers, Samuel Bridges and Arthur Mee, were killed through being struck on the head by cargo slings xx-hile loading vessels. SABOTAGE IN QUEENSLAND. BRISBANE, October 4.
