ROUGH PLAY
LEAGUE TEST AT DUNEDIN. Electric Telegraph —Drees Association DUNEDIN, August 20. In view of Saturday’s rough play in the League test, it was inevitable that some comment should be voiced at a smoke concert given in the evening to the visitors. Most of the straight talking was done by the English managers (Messrs Hutchins and Osborne), both of whom laid on the cane. Mr Hutchins, who was especially straightforward, deplored the fact that such game should have been staged where there was such a strong opposition to the code, and he wondered if Saturday’s game had been worth while. After exhorting players always to consider seriously the question “Is the game worth while?” he made it clear that unless the game were played in its real spirit he would step out, and be glad to do so. He believed, however, that the second test was only a “flv in the ointment.” The utmost friendliness prevailed at the function, hut it was a pity the same spirit could not have been taken on to the field oi play.
