A CHEERFUL COMPANY

MOST SUCCESSFUL SEASON.

A cheerful, if small, attendance was recorded at the fourteenth annual general meeting of the North Tiraumea Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., held at the factory, Kohinui, yesterday, Mr J- Rose (chairman of directors) presiding. The report and Balance-sheet indicated that the company had experienced a most successful season, the average payment for butter-fat reaching Is 8d per lb., besides whicli ample provision had been made for depreciation. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr Rose stated that the year had turned out very well for suppliers and it was quit© evident that the affairs of, the company were being satisfactorily looked after by the directors and the staff. The factory and plant were in first-class condition and the futur© looked very promising indeed. Mr S. Bolton seconded the resolution, at the same time confirming the opinion expressed by the chairman that the position of the company was much sounder than it had ever been, the effect of building up the reserves now having mad© itself felt to the benefit of all suppliers. The resolution was carried after a few questions had be*en asked and satisfactorily answered. The retiring directors, Messrs J. Rose and W. Olsen, were elected unopposed, as was also the retiring auditor, Mr G. G. Taylor. TEMPTING MARKET.

At the invitation of the company, Air Loughnan. of the N.Z. Co-opera-tive Alariveting Association, was present and gave a short address on matters of marketing interest, and his speech was listened to with close attention, dealing as it did with the past year’s results and the prospects for tiie coining year. In the opinion of the speaker, there was a decidedly tempting market ahead for cheese, and although he would not presume to advise, lie was of the opinion that the consigning factories had nothing to fear.

In moving to record a vote of thanks to Air Loughnan, the chairman stated that in the Alarketing Association the. dairy companies bail a very real friend. Last year the North Tiraumea company had sold th© first half of the season at 9d per lb f.o.b. on the advice of theassociation and had refused that price for the second half of the output. The advice had been sound and good, and the company had reaped a very excellent harvest as a result. No other factory had beaten theirs as to average pay-out, and most were well behind them.

In acknowledging the vote, Air Loughnan spoke most appreciatively of the treatment he had received at the hands of this and many other companies and stated that he was glad to know that companies really did remember that the Marketing Association was their own concern and not an ordinary business looking to nmk ■ as much out of farmers as it could hut rather to get as much for them as possible. A vote of thanks to the staff concluded a most satisfactory meeting, the chairman stating that the whole of the additional payment du© to suppliers would be available almost immediately.
