FANCY DRESS DANCE

A A-ery successful fancy dress dance was held in the Alangamutu hall on Friday even ing in aid of the school funds. The folloAving Avas the programme, the items by the Maori gil ls being particularly good: Opening Avaltz, polka, treasure hunt, ■ song by Alaori girls, polka, grand inarch and judging of costumes, “Sir Roger de Coverly,” song “The Valley Lies Smiling,” waltz, “Reaping the flax,” song “Pictures in the Fire,” parcel game, song “Along a Green Valley,” “My Mother Said,’ Jolly Miller. Etz, “.Dragon Fly” ; Margaret Fenwick, “Totem Pole,” H. Bellshaw, “Ace of Hearts,” E. Mills, “Target.”

THE PRIZE-WINNERS. Girls: Best costume, “Ratana,” Alary Newton ; most original: “Question' Alark,” L. Collier; prettiest: “Early Victorian,” Annie Avery. Tiny tots: Prettiest, Given Bennetto; most original: “Play Area,” Betty Sutton. Boys: Best, “Rajah.” Alan Jackson; most original: “Sandwich Alan’,’ E. O’Brien ; best paper dress: “Shell Benzine,” Jack Collier. Tiny tots: Prettiest: “Jockey,” Afaster O’Connor; most original: “Buttons,” B. Bennetto. Girls, 8 to 12 —most original: “Itiekett’s Blue,” Isla AlePhee. Boys, 8 to 12: “Black and White,” Owen Sanders. Sjiecial prize: “Eclipse of Sun,” Kathleen Bray.” Funniest girl, “Harold Lloyd,” Rosie Sebelin. Other awards comprised: “Waitress,” Kathleen O’Brien : “Chinaman,” G. Hamilton; “I got the Sack,” Eric Sanders; -“Buttons,” B. Bennetto; “Dutch Girl,” Alary MacDonald.” A splendid prize for infants was donated by Airs F. Stokes. Mrs J- D. C. Crewe and Mrs Purdie were the judges and their task was not an easy one. A splendid supiper was provided; to which the children aid full justice Mr D. O’Brien (chairman of the Mangamutu school committee) returned thanks to the judges, the ladies’ committee, the teachers, the various helpers, arid the public. He expressed gratification at the support received. The dance music was supplied by Miss Bellshaw, and the M.’sC. were Alessrs Pedersen and -T. O’Brien. Great credit is due to the teachers, Miss Hurran and Miss Williams for their ability in organising the entertainment..
