WOODVILLE JOCKEY CLUB

MEETING OF STEWARDS

A meeting of the stewards of the \V oodville District Jockey Club was ne’d recently. There were present: Mr S. Bolton (president), Messrs M. O. Grainger, G. Peebles, G. J. Goldfinch, J. Elder, R. R. Johnston, J. C. Bolton Jno. Murray, and C Mackie.

A lettei- was received from the Otaki Racing Club, stating.that they had applied for 7th and Bth December instead of for th e dates allocated by _ the dates committee, and explaining that the reason was because the November dates would clash with the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting.—The secx*etary explained that the president had instructed him to make the strongest possible protest against the Otaki move, and to urge that if the dates asked for wei-e granted that the gravest injustice would be done the Woodville club. ’Hie seci-etaxy read the letter forwarded to the conference, and the action of the president and seeretary was endorsed.

Mr Grainger observed that the Otaki request, coming after the daces had been allocated, was out of order, considering that the Woodville club had gone to the expense of sending a delegation through to prove their ca.se before the dates committee. Mr Lyon submitted a l-eport. covei - - ihg the visit of the delegates to Wellington in connection with the December dates, and it was received. Oxi the motion of the president the delegates were thanked, for their efforts on behalf of the chib, and fox* the l-esults attained.

Mr Peebles thought special mention should be made of Mr Elder’s valuable work in connection with the improvements carried out at the ground. He moved that the club’s thanks be extended to him. The president agreed with Mi* Peebles, and considered it was rather a fine thing to find a treasurer doing expert work of that nature. He thought the thanks were also a matter for the annual meeting. Mr Peebles’ motion was seconded by sevei-al stewards and carried.

The following nominations were received: President. Mr S. Bolton; vice-president, Mr M. O. Grainge"; treasurer, Mr J. Elder: auditor. Mr Bendall. Messrs J. C. Bolton, W. H. Gaisfoi'd, G. J. Goldfinch. R. H Morgan, Jno. Murray and C. Mackie were nominated for the five vacancies on the stewards, and a ballot will be necessary. The improvements committee accepted the tender of Messrs Mills and Strand for the removal of the 10 stalls. The committee’s report was adopted.
