EKETAHUNA NEWS

(Express.) Whether the bridge at the factory at Newman will be renewed this year depends upon an inspection by the County and the Public Works' engineer, whose decision will be final as far as the Alain Highways Board is concerned. The county engineer made his opinion on the matter perfectly plain at the County Council meeting on Saturday when he said that the greatest carei was being taken to keep the approaches to the bridge level, as otherwise a sudden bump by any heavy traffic was quite likely to cause the bridge to collapse. The County Council is taking steps to raise £5,500 under the bridges’- loan, being £3,000 tor bridges on the highways, and £2,500 for Schultz’s bridge.
