HELPING PLUNKET FUNDS. On Wednesday evening la.st an enjoyable plain and fancy dress dance was held in the Makuri Hall in aid of the Flunket funds. There was a very large attendance, as is usual in Makuri with tunctioms of this nature. Visitors King present from surrounding districts, and there were also prominent members ot the Plunket Society from Pahiatua.
The dresses were pretty and original. The prize for the best lady's costume being awarded to Miss Diamond (Coonoor) as “Early Victorian Lady.” A special was ghen to Mrs H. Whitta in her impersonation of a “Teddy Bear.” For the liest bey s costume the prize went tp Max Ross, as “Indian,” and for the girl’s to Margaret Jennings, as “Rosebud.” During the evening the Mayor of Pahiatua (Mr J. D. C. Crewe) on behalf of the Plunket Society, thanked the ladies of Makuri for their successful effort in augmenting the funds of the society. He said that Pahiatua had a rest room that we should be proud of and that larger towns might envy.
The music for the dance was supplied by Messrs Herbert and Paku in their usual efficient style, and extras were contributed by Misses Reresford (Alfredton) Piper (Mnkairo), and Ross (Coonoor). Mr Gcof. Armstrong proved himself a very capable M.C., the dance going with a swing from start to finish.
