This Day. ,At a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union, a challenge was received from Hawke’s Bay for the Ranfurly Shield. The . challenging union intimated that it fully realised Canterbury’s difficulty regarding; fixtures, but suggested September 12th as the date for the match in Christchurch, conditional on Canterbury holding the shield on that date. Air S. F. Wilson: I move that we accept the challenge and play. We will be able to play it. The motion was carried. Ojther challenges accepted wore: Wairarapa for July 18, and Manawhen.ua August 11. Tlie chairman pointed out that South Canterbury had put in first claim for the challenge match. it was decided to write to that Union pointing out it would be ver. hard for ' Canterbury to fix a. date prior to July 18.
