SEVERAL OFFENDERS
THEFT AND FALSE PRETENCES Electric Telegraph-—Press Association WELLINGTON. This Day. Edward William King, canvasser. Wellington, pleaded guilty before E. Page, S.M.. to four charges of false pretences in respect of cheques presented to an Auckland publican and dishonoured. Counsel said restitution would be made if accused was granted probation. He was remanded for sentence to-morrow. Three months’ gaol was imposed on Ernest Hodge, alias Wilson, 32, who, unauthorised. received deposits. hut failed to account to his employers, for a sum of £6 15s, as an advertising canvasser l , on a commission basis. He had been previously convicted of two charges in Auckland. A steward on the Middlesex, Fiank Herbert Upton, 17, was remanded for sentence to-morrow on a charge of receiving n. quantity of clothing and two handbags valued at £6 10s. The charges related to a cargo pillaging case in connection with which a number of men have been sent to prison
