The Times has received an exclusive despatch from Colonel Howard Bury, leader of tlie. adventurous expedition which hopes to conquer Mt. Everest. He describes the start from Darjeeling. The advance party left on 13tli and went up Teefcta Valley to Correct the maps. The main body left in two sections from Government House on 18th anil I.9th in moonsoonlike weather and torrential downpours, with the mountains veiled by thick clouds. The principal transport consists of a hundred mules and drivers who are hillmen from Northern India. In preparation for tho great adventure, they have been route marching for weeks past. Forty Sherpa coo lies, drawn from the villages close to Mt. Everest, who had never before been visited by Europeans, provide, the porter corps. They are strong and sturdy, with an amazing sdnse of humour. Their strangest characteristic, is their .huge. feet , which made their fitting out in hoots a tough problem. Tlie expedition is fully equipped with medical, geological, botanical, and zoological experts, and with complete equipment of surveying and photographic apparatus, and arrangements have been made to develop the nesults at Tibet.
