At the Coroner’s enquiry regarding the miirder of Thomas Williams, a one-legged farmin' living alone at Waroonn, whose body was exhumed last week on his own farm, the evidence showed that Williams was last seen on September 5. A few weeks previously he had engaged Charles Odgers as a helper. On September 13 Odgers was in possession of a horse, cart and ride (belonging to \\ illiams. Ho said the latter was selling the horse and cart. Odgers rode tr the residence of Mrs Molyneaux, whom it is alleged he shot and then attempted suicide, exploding a dynamite cap in his mouth. He was found two days later in the scrub, nearly dead. Odgers, who has recovered, says the shooting of the woman was accidental and that lie had never seen or known Williams. Williams’s skull was smashed. TERRIFIC GALES AT SEA. New York, Last Night. The incoming trans-Atlantic liners report terrific gales at sea. The Mongolian arrived at Halifax a week overdue, and reports having been severely buffeted. Many costal vessels are overdue, and numerous oiisuallies are reported from Newfoundland fishing grounds. Vancouver, Last Night. A great gale is ragisg along the Northern Pacific coasts. The steamer Niagara, on which the New Zealand footballers ate, is having a rough passage. A passenger fell overboard from the steamer President, and an officer and three of the crew launched a boat an! attempted a rescue. The boat was swamped, and all were drowned. MEASLES IN ALASKA. Vancouvetnr, Last Night. From Valdez. Alaska, comes news of an extraordinary outbreak of measles at Afognak. One hundred persons have died. The inhabitants are appealing to tile Vnied States Government. Doctors and supplies are urgently needed. Measles among the Eskimos is also ravaging the far northern settlements. NOT A CERTAIN CURE. London, Last Night. Sir Alfred Gould, bead of the Can- | cer Research Department, in Middlesox Hospital stated that cases exist where radium is useless. Tile disease has a tendency to affect many of the internal organs, placing it at present beyond the reach of radium, but when the disease is localised the results are sufficient to justify saying that treatment by radium is successful, and to the emanations were being added greater, brighter and more confident hopes than ever attended to any remedy < xcept operating. A VICAR'S MORALS. London, Last Night. The Consistory Court at Lichfield is investigating the allegations of immorality against the Rev. W. H. Redgrave, the vicar of St. Paul’s, of Hutslem, charged with consorting with Hanna Outer, his adopted daughter. FRENCH ROYALISTS. Paris, Last Night. At the opening meeting of the Congress of the Action Frahcaise, a militant Royalist organisation, five of the members dragged a man on to the platform, handcuffed and liound, and placarded with the word “Spy!’ The president explained that the man, a police agent, joined the organisation for tho pur|mse of betraying members. Being suspected, the man was ordered to deface WakleckRosseau’s statute, hut was seen to telephone to the police. After suffering the execrations of the audience, the man, still handcuffed, hut with the ko.v of the handcuffs in his pocket, was turned in to* the street.
