HON. JAMES McGOWAN.

FOUND DEAD AT THAMES

THE CAUSE OF DEATH. SUPPOSED HEART DISEASE. Electric Telegraph—Press Association. Thames, This Day. The Hon. James McGowan. Minister for Mines, etc., in the Seddon and Ward Administrations from 1899 to 1908, was found dead this morning in a lavatory outside the Royal Hotel, where he has resided for many years. Deceased, who appeared to be in excellent health, attended a farewell social to Mr John M'atson, of Price, Ltd., last night. He was in splendid form, and chatted with his friends.

This morning, about 10.30, when a commercial traveller went to the lavatory, he found Mr McGowan. Life was extinct. Heart disease is believed to have been the cause of death. He was unmarried, 72 years of age, and it is believed that his only near relative is a sister residing in the Waikato.
