The man known as “Bill,” who fatally shot a carter named Blanchet because he caused the arrest ot Renert, an Anarchist member of the Bonnot gang, was recently arrested and released owing to lack of evidence against, him. Blanchet was courting a young dressmaker, who was lodging at Renert’s house. The dressmaker really informed the authorities as to the identity of Renert. The police believe that a secret conclave of Anarchists decreed that Renert should be avenged. Blanchet was lured to a lonely part of a road. Bill fired, missing Blanchet, who fled.
A tramcar conductor saw him running, and signalling wildly, but fie did not stop because the place to not the usual halting one. Bill finally shot Blanchet.
Foresters and soldiers are surrounding the forest of Havre, where it is believed Bill is hiding.
